DETERRITORIALIZING THE BODY A Butoh Workshop with Virginia Torres Leipzig, 21-22 November 2026 The essence of Butoh is universal and touches something deeply human. It is often said that there are as many Butohs as there are Butoh dancers, since Butoh digs into the roots of our being to uncover an authentic, personal movement language: an “original dance” that belongs to each of us, “opening up like a flower,” as Atsushi Takenouchi proclaims. In the workshop, we will explore: - Somatic practices inspired by Noguchi Taiso, a Japanese bodywork approach developed by Michizo Noguchi, which understands the body as a “body of water”. - Guided improvisation through images, a core tool in Butoh, using poetic and physical imagery to stimulate inner landscapes and transform sensation into movement. - Other somatic movement practices influenced by the work of Yumiko Yoshioka, Mi Tanaka, Imre Thormann. - Awakening hidden parts, dark areas of the body, dancing with what has been forgotten.
